The elections in Trinidad are finally over and the lady came out on top. Trinidad elected its first female Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar
2010-06-07  16:33:26
Controversy between races in Trinidad has been an issue when voting but Kamla recently expressed that her government would not allow one ethnic group or social class to dominate Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidadians decided they wanted change for them as people and as a Country. Patrick Manning has been in power for 13 of the last 17 years. Manning did not play nice throughout elections, suggesting Kamla being a woman was not strong enough to rule. Kamla stood her ground appearing on her campaign platforms to the song by Helen Reddys I Am Woman. Her party now holds 29 of 41 seats. The people have done their job by voting and its now the governments turn to make their promises a reality. Kamla announced in her victory speech, You can hold me accountable to the promise of change that we offered you. I knew the time had come. A new page has been turned and the responsibility to each of you is now on my shoulders. I will not let you down.
